3 Tips For Moving Furniture Across A Hardwood Floor

A newly-installed hardwood floor is a beautiful thing – the rich glow, the pattern of the wood grain, and the glossy sheen just begging for thick socks and a running start. Like any piece of artwork, it’s tempting to rope it off and admire it from afar. Eventually, though, you’ll want to move your furniture back in. For many homeowners this can be stressful – no one wants a scratch in their new hardwood floor. Decorating your room is supposed to be fun, take the worry away by following these 3 tips for moving furniture across hardwood floors:

1: IF IT’S LIGHT, LIFT IT.

Moving is a lot of work. It can be tempting to push your furniture across the floor just to be done with it. DON’T! Even a small push can scratch your floor. If your furniture it light enough, carry it across. Remember to lift with your legs, keeping your back straight.

2: IF IT’S HEAVY, CART IT.

If you have furniture that’s too big or too heavy to lift, use a cart. Many different furniture dollies are available in the marketplace for rent and purchase. If possible find a dolly with soft, inflatable wheels. For added protection, especially if using a dolly with hard wheels, place blankets or cardboard across your path to further protect your floor.

3: USE FELT PADS.

Inexpensive and simple to install, felt pads can save you the expense and worry of repairing or replacing your hardwood floor. Attaching quality felt pads to the legs of your furniture will allow for easy movement, without risking damage.
